Beer Info:
Descriptors: Astringent
Bottle Inspection: All Good
Bottle Comments:

Aroma:
Med-low bready grainy aroma, hint of chocolate and coffee, medium burnt toast that becomes more apparent as the beer warms. No hop aroma. Faint fruity esters from yeast.
6 / 12

Appearance:
Medium brown, crystal clear. Low off white head of fine foam that quickly fades to a ring at the perimeter.
2 / 3

Flavor:
Bready malt with some burnt toast, faint chocolate. Low dark fruit esters as the beer warms.Low sweetness and very low hop bitterness tilts the balance towards malt, but not quite enough. No hop flavor. Dry in the finish from roasted grains, and alcohol.
12 / 20

Mouthfeel:
Medium body, moderate carbonation. Low alcohol warmth, slight roasty dark grain dryness bordering on astringent.
4 / 5

Overall:
A very good beer, fairly well executed and enjoyable but slightly off the mark of the best examples of the style. More residual sweetness and body with less roasted grain dryness is needed. If brewing all grain, consider a higher mash temperature or less attenuative yeast. Lower carbonation would also help.
