Aroma:
Medium-high level of rich, toasty malt aroma - similar to toasted bread crusts. Medium amount of caramel richness and sweetness - especially as sample warms. Medium amount of dark fruit aromas (raisin, date, plum) - not esters, but malt character. No hop aroma. No fruity esters. No diacetyl. Very light skunky aroma that dissipates slightly as the sample warms.
7 / 12

Appearance:
Deep amber and BRILLIANTLY clear. Medium amount of light tan head that persists.
3 / 3

Flavor:
Medium amount of toasty malt flavor dominates with medium notes of raisin and caramel. Sweet and malty. No hop flavor, but enough bitterness to keep it from being cloying. Balance is firmly toward the malty. Finishes with medium dryness. No esters or fermentation character. Smooth.
12 / 20

Mouthfeel:
Medium body with medium carbonation. No warmth and light creaminess. No astringency.
5 / 5

Overall:
Overall a very good example of the style with just a couple minor flaws. The caramel flavor and aroma are a little high for the style. If using caramel, try decreasing the amount just a little bit and replacing it with dark Munich malt. A little additional hop bitterness would also help to mellow out some of the sweetness. Just a little sweet, even for the style.
