Aroma:
Medium roast coffee. Cocoa. Bready malts. Some light pine. Clean yeast character.
10 / 12
Appearance:
Vanilla/toffee head with good sustain. Near black color with hints of milk chocolate. Practically opaque.
3 / 3
Flavor:
Predominantly coffee/brown sugar/dark chocolate. Roast and cocoa characters continue with slight bitterness/harshness in aftertaste. Alcohol warmth is very easy to miss.
15 / 20
Mouthfeel:
Creamy and chewy. Medium-low carbonation. No heat whatsoever. Light resinous feeling is very pleasant. Same slight harshness present from roastiness.
4 / 5
Overall:
An exemplary porter. Highlights an incredible balance between sweet and roast malt character with a fitting amount of hop bitterness as the backbone. To make this truly shine, I would suggest upping some gypsum to temper the bitterness and possibly some additional unroasted character malts.
8 / 10
