Bottle Comments:

Aroma:
Complex dark fruit aromas, reminiscent of raisins, plums, and figs. Moderate complex malty sweetness with a very light toasty/melanoidin character. Light amount of phenolic spiciness - mostly pepper. Light alcohol notes, similar to a rich red wine. Very light metallic notes as it warms. No hop character. No DMS.
10 / 12

Appearance:
Very deep red, almost black. Large amount of off-white head that persists. Several fingers of tight, white lacing are left when it finally dissipates. Unable to determine clarity.
3 / 3

Flavor:
Alcohol is immediately apparent, but isn't hot, just moderately warming and not out of place. Dark fruit takes center stage and mingles with a complex malty foundation. Light spicy notes, reminiscent of white pepper, move thru the finish. Alcohol notes help to balance out the malt sweetness, but still finishes a little on the sweeter side. No hop character.
17 / 20

Mouthfeel:
Medium body with a medium-high amount of alcohol warmth. Medium-high level of carbonation. Creamy with a moderate amount of astringency from the alcohol.
4 / 5

Overall:
Finishes just a little on the sweet side for my palate, but overall an excellent beer. I better be careful finishing the rest of this bottle!
8 / 10
